Another Pelion gem, 3 klm north
It is amphitheatrically built above Pelion's picturesque port of
the spacious beach of Papa Nero
beyond which follows Pelion's oldest seaside resort of Agios
Ioannis [St. John's]. Mouresi has
a stunning view of the sea and the mountains. On a clear day one
can see Halkidiki and the sunrise behind Mount
Athos. Mouresi overlooks a deep valley
whose great beauty is known only to the few
lovers of nature, the initiates, who have
sought out a guide to take them down the deep recesses of the ravine
where two cascading streams form natural pools in whose ice-cold
waters only nereids and nymphs have bathed since the dawn
of time. The hiker will then resurface into civilization, a changed
person with a twinkle in his eye.
flag-stoned, main square is dominated by a tall linden tree that
generously lends its shade to the beautiful church of Holy Trinity.
A few hundred meters down the main road there is the old church
of the Dormition of Virgin Mary,
which is a prime example of a basilica, quite artfully built and
decorated with an old, carved wooden iconostasis of exquisite craftsmanship.
Mouresi makes for an ideal base for a walking holiday.
